Come paint with me.

Saturday, July 13th /  10am - 3pm

We will meet at my Monterey home, warm up in the garden, and studio with drawing and watercolor exercises. Then we will go paint in some of the charming historic gardens downtown Monterey. We will  have lunch in the gardens of Alta Bakery cafe in the Cooper Molera Adobe, a National Trust Historic Site with old roses, an orchard and delightful buildings and barns dating from 1827. I will show you some of my favorite features and stories of each garden.

Practice telling a story, seeing shapes, mixing colors, playing with light and shadows, abstraction, or reality. We will draw, paint, experiment and have fun! We will end in my garden and share our art with
a cool drink & toast.

Cost: $240.

Bring your favorite supplies or use some of mine, a sun hat & lunch money.

Iluminado is a mesmerizing series of artful trees created by local artists: Edi Matsumoto, Elizabeth Murray, Mark Schlegel, JP Frary, and Sea Sevilla and Avelino Sanher of La Neta Murals. More than mere installations, these trees serve as interactive symbols, capturing the diverse voices of our community. Within Iluminado, visitors are invited to collaborate with each exhibition. With Elizabeth’s tree you are invited to write love notes to trees remembering all their beauty and life giving generosity. Children of all ages are writing notes to fairies to post in on the fairy tree and white paper doves have messages of peace in over 100 languages. Fun, quick drawing lessons will deepen your ability to see, and your hand to move as you draw what you see. You will learn simple, clear design elements - to make your art sing. We will review some watercolor techniques: play will be the way to awaken your natural abilities to create with curiosity and humor. There will be flowers, the garden and many intriguing objects to create your own creation as well as poems and blessings for inspiration. There will be several flower wreaths you can paint to create your own set of note cards, or to illustrate a blessing if you choose. Each artist in attendance will be given one of my flower illustrated wreath blessings as a gift.

Bring a friend or family member to create with you… See you soon!
